Maine Wildlife Park

It's been a crappy Spring. Normally, I don't really mind crappy weather, but when you are trying to entertain a 5 1/2 month old, you start praying for sun. There's only so much you can do inside. Only so many times you can hear the same sing-song from his favorite toy before going bonkers.

So, I decided to take him to the Maine Wildlife Park as a change of pace. I hadn't been there, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I'd heard great things. And they were right, it was awesome and we had a blast.

It's a rehabilitation park... Most of the animals seemed in pretty good shape, but some were definitely getting some much needed TLC. It was great to see them being taken care of by the Maine Game Wardens who were all over the park.

I took about a million photos, so I'll let them speak for themselves. For the family who doesn't get to see Sully much, it's kinda like taking the tour with him and seeing what he saw for the first time...

Arrived!! Happy little camper...
Checking out the map to see where we should go first...
The entrance...
Our first stop! The Tree Trail!
It was this awesome little trail through the woods...
More of the trail...

How they cut wood so none is waisted...

Moose!
Not many people get to see a moose before they are six months old...
Next, we came upon the coyote... there were benches by this pretty fellow, so we stopped, visited, and had some lunch...
These guys seemed to follow us around... They were everywhere!
Next stop... Bears!!

We threw them some food from one of the little quarter machines....
Red Fox - he was taking a little nap...
Grey Fox - this guy was CRAZY!
Little pond area with bird houses - good home for turtles and snakes!
The Lynx.. His paws were probably three times the size of Anouk's....

He seemed to be Sully's favorite so far - they had a staring contest... Sully won...
Then we came upon the birds which had an entire area all to themselves..

The Screech Owl
The Barn Owl
Peregrin Falcon
I think this was the Red Winged Falcon
Horned Owl - he was a little creepy looking...
Barred Owls

Oh Yeah. That's a Bald Eagle. He was ENORMOUS!
Golden Eagle - I couldn't get a good shot, but this bird was big too...
Nevermore?
Yucky Turkey Vultures...
Then we walked through the center of the park - picnic tables and benches everywhere! I even saw people sprawled out having picnics. It was awesome.

They had great carvings like this everywhere....

At this point, Sully konked out....
But we kept going anyway - on to the deer exhibit!

I threw some food out, and these lovelies wandered over....

Oh, hey! What's up? Just hangin out, ya know...

They had a hatchery full of trout...
The marshy trail we took....

And three and a half hours later, we'd made the rounds!

Little ham....

 Cheers!!
